Towle
|
The
Towle tradition of craftsmanship dates back to 1690 when William
Moulton II was the first to attempt silversmithing in Newbery,
Massachusetts. Six consecutive generations of Moulton silversmiths,
followed by the Towle silversmiths, represent a heritage that
spans a time period longer than that of the United States.
Towle's cutlery alloy is a high carbon steel containing chromium
(for resistance to rust and corrosion), manganese (for toughness),
and molybdenum (for uniform hardness). The handles are die-cast
zinc, providing a solid metal handle which is highly polished,
buffed and then triple plated with heavy layers of copper nickel
and chrome. The resulting chrome surface is lustrous, mush harder
than either silver, stainless or aluminum and more scratch-resistant.
